That you are having problems does not mean the entire Mac community is having problems. So Apple has no clue how often all Office products are crashing on the Mac. And I very clearly noted where to find it. Any Office app you have open has the option to check for updates in the same place.

Microsoft(R) Word for Mac does not have a 'check for updates' option. I have extremely frustrated, and I have no clue what to do. I'd really appreciate any insight and step-by-step instructions anyone might have. It came up with one minor error with Geneva, but there was no option I could find to resolve it. I tried validating fonts, but I have no duplicate fonts. I tried deleting the folder in the Library -> Containers, which did nothing (and as soon as I try opening Word again, the folder re-appears). I've tried starting in safe mode, which did not help. This is recent as I was able to use Word fine with no issues just a few weeks ago. I've also noticed that sometimes Word crashes immediately upon opening it. Sometimes it allows me to change the font color in one section, but if I try it a 2nd time elsewhere in the document, it crashes. Whenever I try to change the font color in Word, it crashes. For details on switching to RefWorks 3.0 see the links below.I have a 2017 12-inch Macbook, only about 4 months old. Please note that this version is only compatible with RefWorks 3.0. You will then be requested to enter your legacy RefWorks 2.0 log in details before you can start using it.Īlternatively, new users may choose to switch to the new version of RefWorks 3.0 now and use the RefWorks Citation Manager add-in if you only have Microsoft Word 2016.

You may install RefWorks Citation Manager (RCM) from Word 2016's Insert tab > Add-ins > Word Store > then search for RefWorks - select the RefWorks Citation Manager add-in and add it by clicking the 'trust it' button. If you want to use Word 2016 on a Mac (available from Office 365) then switch to RefWorks Citation Manager. Please note that WNC4 is not compatible with Word 2016 on a Mac. If you need further advice please contact giving full details of your problem and also the versions of Java, OS X, Word and WNC4 that you have installed.

If you do not have a copy of MS Office you may obtain a discounted version online from the Apple Store for Education (just log in with your brunel.ac.uk email address). If Java is enabled, WNC4 should run (our thanks go to Dudley Knox Library for publishing this advice). You can check for Microsoft Office updates by opening Microsoft Word and navigating to Help > Check for Updates. Once you have reinstalled/enabled Java please check for Microsoft Office updates.

If you are still running Mavericks (OS X 10.9) you can download Java by navigating to the Apple Icon > System Updates, or go to: - you need Java Runtime Environment 8 instead. Make sure you install Java for OS X 2017-001 (or later) - if you have another version of Java please uninstall it first and restart your computer.

To ensure WNC4 functions correctly on your computer you will need to update Java (see the advice on RefWorks' Write-N-Cite 4 troubleshooting page). You may have updated your Mac from Mavericks (OS X 10.9.x) to Yosemite (OS X 10.10.x) which might disable Java or remove it.
